What is the most pressing issue of our time?

We are all aware of the suffering and disruption that has been caused by COVID. If I’m honest, I’ve always felt immune to a disaster like this. Spending much of the year in health-tech has made what always seemed like a fictional possibility, real. But is COVID the most pressing issue of our time?

I turned my attention to find out more about the most significant challenges we will face in the next few decades. Out of the many pressing issues that I discovered, the sleeping giant that caught my attention was Climate Change.

The bottom line is; we’re heading toward an economical, humanitarian and ecological disaster that will dwarf the pain and suffering experienced through COVID by an order of magnitude. Our current trajectory means that a massive part of the Earth’s landmass may become uninhabitable, meaning millions of people will find themselves needing to relocate. Poverty, hunger and conflicts for resources will be commonplace. The furnaces that have been experienced by Australia and California may become commonplace. Our global economy will experience a vast disruption, with losses in the trillions. We are on course to experience this nightmare firsthand, in our lifetimes.

We have less than a decade to make a real difference, but we do have the time and talent to move the needle. We CAN do something about this.
